NCVO Launches New Commission On Future Funding 

The Funding Commission will be up and running by early 2009 and will examine the state of future funding for the whole sector. The commission will look at the sustainability and volatility of the funding environment and focus on planning to safeguard the third sector in the medium to long term. New Guidance On Trustee Payments Published

The Charity Commission has published updated guidance for the payment of trustees who provide their charities with goods and services. The new guidance covers what is and is not a reasonable expense, when trustees can and cannot be paid for goods and services and how to manage any conflict of interest that may arise. Charity Commission Raises Accounting Threshold To £25,000

The Charity Commission announced that charities with incomes below £25,000 will no longer have to submit their annual accounts to the regulator.  As part of the safeguards introduced along with this change, the Charity Commission will carry out random checks on a small number of charities falling below the £25,000 threshold. In addition to this, online filing of accounts is now open for charities whose financial year ended in 2008. More details at the  Charity Commission website.

New Fund For Social Enterprises Announced

The Office of the Third Sector has announced a £6m investment in social enterprise through the ChangeUp infrastructure programme. The money will be spent through organisations that provide support to social enterprises and the majority of the money will be spent at regional level. The money will fund improvements like new mentoring schemes, more accredited advisers and work to develop emerging markets.
