Funding : Young People’s Fund 2 : Local Grants

A summary of the recent Big Lottery Fund's launch of YPF2 for local organisations ....

Big Lottery Fund have committed part of their £38 million Young People’s Fund budget for “exemplar projects that will help to address the ‘Every Child Matters’ outcomes".  Competition will be high and they only expect to make 100 grants across England.   In brief:-

  • Grants are from £10k to £500k for projects lasting one to five years
  • 'New' applications will be treated more favourably than those from organisations holding YPF1 monies.
  • Projects working with ages 10-18 and up to age 25 if they are “finding the change to independent living difficult”
  • Projects must be youth-led and actively involve young people in their creation, development and management.   Participation Works are providing free support to help organisations actively involve young people.

Projects must meet at least the first two Big outcomes of:-

  • More organisations involve YP in developing, running and reviewing policies and services
  • Organisations and the YP sector have improved YP services
  • Organisations and the YP sector understand the needs of YP better
  • Organisations and the YP sector are more able to involve YP

and at least two of the Every Child Matters outcomes:-

  • enjoying and achieving
  • being safe
  • being healthy
  • making a positive contribution
  • achieving economic well-being

The closing date for Outline Proposal Forms is16 October 2008 and more information is available at Big Lottery Fund.
