The Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) is a new legal form for charities. The Office of the Third Sector and the Charity Commission have launched a consultation on what the new form might look like and what rules it will follow.
Most charities can only incorporate as a company limited by guarantee meaning they are regulated by both the Charity Commission and Companies House. The CIO is designed specifically for charities and will only be regulated by the Charity Commission.
The consultation is aimed at those who will use the CIO and those who work with them, including funders, contractors, and suppliers. More information at www.cabinetoffice.gov.uk/third_sector
